Aufgrund weiterhin schwerer Unfälle auf namibischen Straßen, gab es bisher in diesem Jahr mehr Verkehrstote als 2016. Laut dem Verkehrsunfall-Fonds MVA starben bis Anfang der Woche 264 Menschen auf Namibias Straßen. Dies sind etwa 5,5 Prozent mehr als zum gleichen Zeitpunkt des Vorjahres. Die Zahl der Unfälle nahm hingegen um etwa 10 Prozent auf 1388 ab. Die Zahl der Verletzten ging ebenso um etwa 10 Prozent auf nun etwa 2200 zurück.
Nach Citroen zieht sich auch die Automarke Chevrolet komplett aus dem Südlichen Afrika und damit auch Namibia zurück. Dies gab das Mutterunternehmen GM heute bekannt. Demnach werde man die Fahrzeugfabriken in Südafrika an Isuzu abgeben. Die Service-Verträge für Fahrzeuge der Marke Chevrolet werden vermutlich ab Ende 2017 von Isuzu, die wohl auch Teile des GM-Vertriebsnetzes übernehmen, übernommen. Auch die Zukunft von Opel im Südlichen Afrika ist ungeklärt. – Bereits im Dezember hatte Citroen, nachdem nur etwa 440 Fahrzeuge im Jahr verkauft wurden, den kompletten Rückzug aus dem Südlichen Afrika angekündigt.
Die Regierung des neuen französischen Präsidenten Macron hat heute ihr Arbeit aufgenommen. Die neu ernannten Minister kamen am Vormittag im Pariser Elysee Palast zu ihrer ersten Kabinettssitzung zusammen. Dabei wurden die Grundzüge der künftigen Regierungsarbeit festgelegen. Noch vor der Parlamentswahl nächsten Monat soll unter anderem ein Gesetz für mehr Moral in der Politik verabschiedet werden. Es untersagt Parlamentariern und Ministern Familienangehörige zu beschäftigen.
Die EU-Kommission hat gegen Facebook eine Strafe von 110 Millionen Euro verhängt. Hintergrund ist die Fusion mit WhatsApp im Jahr 2014. Facebook hatte behauptet, keinen automatischen Daten-Abgleich zwischen den Facebook- und WhatsApp-Konten einzurichten, im vergangenen Jahr wurde das dann aber doch gemacht.
