Überpünktlich ist am Morgen der Erstflug von Eurowings aus Frankfurt auf dem Internationalen Flughafen Hosea Kutako gelandet. Dem Chef der Lufthansa Group für das südliche Afrika, André Schulz nach, war die Maschine mit 288 Passagieren an Bord fast bis auf den letzten Platz gefüllt. Der Flieger wurde der Tradition entsprechend mit einer Wasserfontäne, trotz Wassersparmaßnahmen im Land, von der Flughafenfeuerwehr begrüßt. Eurowings fliegt fortan ganzjährig am Dienstag, Donnerstag und Samstag von Frankfurt und am nächsten Tag dorthin zurück. Geflogen wird in einer 2-Klassen-Konfiguration und ab etwa März 2020 dann auch zusätzlich mit einer Business Class.
Das Ministerium für Geschlechtergleichheit und Kindeswohlfahrt wird in Zukunft sieben Frauenhäuser mit Unterstützung privater Sozialorganisationen betreiben. Dies teilte Vizeministerin Lucia Witbooi mit. Demnach habe man diese im abgelaufenen Finanzjahr renoviert. Das „Friendly Haven Shelter“ in Windhoek sei bereits offen und werde von zwei Frauen betrieben. Es erfreut sich großer Beliebtheit, weshalb man auch weitere Frauenhäuser in ähnlichem Umfang eröffnen wolle. Bisher sind die Einrichtungen in Opuwo, Eenhana], Outapi, Rundu und Keetmanshoop nur für Notfälle gedacht. Die Frauenhäuser stehen Opfern häuslicher Gewalt und jeden Alters offen, heißt es.
Simbabwe will im November erstmals seit Einführung des neuen Simbabwe-Dollars im Juni Bargeld in der Währung ausgeben. Dies kündigte Zentralbankdirektor John Mangudya an. Simbabwe hatte zuvor die seit 2016 ausgegebene Schuldscheine in Simbabwe-Dollar umbenannt. Es gab jedoch nur Bargeld in Höhe von 400 Millionen Dollar, anstatt der benötigten 15 Milliarden Dollar. Dies führte zu massiven Engpässen ab Bargeld, zumal Zahlungen mit Devisen offiziell verboten wurden. Zunächst soll es aber nur Scheine von 2 und 5 Simbabwe-Dollar, sowie eine Münze zu 2 Dollar geben. Aktuell entspricht ein Simbabwe-Dollar etwa einem Namibia-Dollar.
