Namibia hat drei weitere Todesopfer in Zusammenhang mit COVID19 zu beklagen. Laut Gesundheitsminister Kalumbi Shangula handelt es sich um einen 70-jährigen Mann und eine 52-jährige Frau aus Walvis Bay sowie eine 73-jährige Frau aus Swakopmund. Alle hätten Vorerkrankungen gehabt. Insgesamt gab es 112 neue Fälle des Coronavirus, die in den vergangenen 24 Stunden nachgewiesen wurden. Hiervon stammen 42 aus Walvis Bay 36 aus Swakopmund, 19 aus Windhoek und neun aus Oshakati.
Der Gewerkschaftsbund Tucna lehnt einen Kredit des Internationalen Währungsfonds IMF für Namibia strikt ab. Damit würde das Land endgültig seine finanzielle Freiheit abgeben, sagte Tucna-Generalsekretär Mahongora Kavihuha. Es sei nicht zu verantworten, dass neue Kredite zur Begleichung laufender Kreditzahlungen aufgenommen würden. Namibias Schuldenlast sei ohnehin schon zu hoch, so Kavihuha. Er rechne damit, dass das Geld ohnehin in dunklen Kanälen versickern würde. – Finanzminister Iipumbu Shiimi hatte angekündigt, dass Namibia 4,5 Milliarden Namibia Dollar beim IMF beantragt hatte. Kurz zuvor seien Südafrika 50 Milliarden Rand als COVID19-Hilfsgelder zugesagt worden.
Die Gouverneurin von ||Karas, Aletta Fredericks, sieht ihre Region im Kampf gegen COVID19 gut aufgestellt. Mit den wenigen Geldern und Ressourcen die man habe, sei ein gutes und sicheres System für die Einwohner und Quarantänepersonen geschaffen worden. Fredericks hoffe, dass die staatlichen und privaten Stellen weiterhin so eng zusammenarbeiten. Der Bau von zwei Coronatestzentren an den Grenzübergängen Ariamsvlei und Noordoewer, mit jeweils vier Betten, sei in vollem Gange. Zudem werde das Staatskrankenhaus in Keetmanshoop für mehr als 20 Millionen Namibia Dollar saniert und für fast 60 Millionen Dollar werde ein Krankenhaus in Rosh Pinah errichtet.
