Air Namibia stellt den Flugbetrieb bis auf Weiteres nicht ein. Dies teilte die Gesellschaft am Nachmittag auf Nachfrage von Hitradio Namibia mit. Über das Ende der staatlichen Fluggesellschaft, die seit 1946 in Betrieb ist, könne einzig und alleine der Staat als Eigentümer entscheiden. Alle Flüge werden wie geplant stattfinden. Air Namibia teilte zudem mit, dass man sich der hohen Verluste der Gesellschaft bewusst sei. Das Budget im aktuellen Finanzjahr 2017/18 betrage 2,4 Milliarden Namibia Dollar, wovon etwa 20 Prozent durch staatliche Subventionen aufgebracht würden. Dieses Geld fließe direkt an jeweilige Lieferanten von Air Namibia wie z.B. für Treibstoff und Flugzeugleasing.
Die Namibische Entwicklungsbank DBN übernimmt ab sofort Aufgaben der bankrotten “SME Bank”. Aus diesem Grund wurde ein Informationszentrum für kleine und mittlere Unternehmen in Windhoek gegründet. Die Finanzierung von solchen Unternehmen sei ein Aspekt, hieß es von DBN-Geschäftsführer Martin Inkumbi. Die Dienstleistungen stünden auch in den DBN-Büros in Walvis Bay und Ongwediva zur Verfügung. Dies bedeute für die Bank aber keinen Schritt in Richtung Geschäftsbank. Man würde weiterhin ausschließlich der Finanzierung von Projekten und Ideen dienen.
Nord- und Südkorea gehen weiter aufeinander zu. Die in der nordkoreanischen Hauptstadt Pjöngjang eingetroffene Delegation aus Südkorea hat sich mit den Vertretern des Nordens auf ein historisches Gipfeltreffen verständigt. Wie es heißt sollen dabei Südkoreas Präsident Moon und der nordkoreanische Machthaber Kim Ende April persönlich zusammenkommen. Dabei dürfte es dann vor allem um das nordkoreanische Atom- und Raketenprogramm gehen.
Der designierte Verkehrsminister Scheuer lehnt blaue Plaketten für Dieselautos in den Städten ab. Diese Kennzeichnung sei falsch und bedeute in der Folge Fahrverbote, sagte Scheuer der Passauer Neuen Presse. Genau das wolle man vermeiden.
