Cricket
Namibia hat die Möglichkeit sich für die Cricket-WM im nächsten Jahr zu qualifizieren verpasst. Nach einer Niederlage und drei Siegen in Folge gab es nun eine 19-Run-Niederlage gegen die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate. Damit rutschte Namibia beim Heimturnier noch von Tabellenplatz 2 auf Rang 4 ab. Nur die ersten beiden Mannschaften qualifizieren sich für die Hauptqualifikation im kommenden Monat in Simbabwe. Dies sind nun Nepal und die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate.
Radsport
Namibia Zeitfahr-Meister Drikus Coetzee hat die Teilnahme an den diesjährigen Commonwealth-Spielen als Ziel für die Mannschaft ausgegeben. Derzeit nimmt Coetzee an den Afrikanischen Straßenmeisterschaften in Ruanda teil, nachdem er bei der südafrikanischen „Mpumalanga Tour“ Anfang des Jahres 15. geworden war. Ziel sei es nun in Ruanda Fünfter zu werden und im Zeitfahren auf dem Podest zu landen. – Die Commonwealth-Spiele finden im April in Australien statt.
Internationaler Sport
Olympische Spiele
Auch am fünften Tag der Olympischen Winterspiele in Südkorea gab es für Deutschland wieder Edelmetall. Eric Frenzel holte in der Nordischen Kombination Gold. Nach dem Springen lag er nur auf Rang 5. Im Rodel-Doppelsitzer der Herren gab es mit Gold und Bronze zwei weitere Medaillen. – Im Medaillenspiegel lag Deutschland bei Redaktionsschluss weiterhin auf Platz 1 mit sieben Gold-, zwei Silber- und drei Bronzemedaillen. Dahinter folgen die Niederlande, USA und Norwegen.
Fußball
In der UEFA-Championsleague trennten sich am zweiten Achtelfinalspieltag Porto und Liverpool 0 zu 5, während Real Madrid gegen Paris Saint Germain 3 zu 1 spielte. Bereits vorgestern gewann Manchester City mit 4 zu 0 in Basel und Tottenham gegen Turin endete 2 zu 2. Kommende Woche Dienstag spielt Chelsea gegen Barcelona und die Münchener Bayern treffen auf Besiktas aus Istanbul. Einen Tag später heißt es dann Sevilla gegen Manchester United und Donezk gegen den AS Rom.
