Nach der Pensionierung von Malan Lindeque hat das Umwelt- und Tourismusministerium MET einen neuen amtierenden Staatssekretär. Theofilus Nghitila sei mit Wirkung des heutigen Tages im Amt, hieß es vom Pressesprecher des MET. Sein Vorgänger, Lindeque, war von 2003 bis 2007 und seit 2014 Staatssekretär im Ministerium. Er gilt als einer der engagiertesten und erfahrensten Naturschützer im Land. Seine Karriere begann er als Ökologe in den 1980er Jahren im Etosha-Nationalpark.
Zahlreiche Dienstleistungen des Innenministeriums sind ab heute bis zu 50 Prozent teurer. So müsse nun für einen Reisepass, Notreisedokument, aber auch für Visa und Permits sowie Geburts- und Heiratsurkunden deutlich tiefer in die Tasche gegriffen werden. Ein Reisepass kostet ab sofort 200 Namibia Dollar. Dies sei weiterhin deutlich preiswerter als der internationale Durchschnitt, hieß es. Es handele sich um die erste Gebührenanpassung des Innenministeriums seit 2004.
Nach den Wahlen in Simbabwe liefern sich Armee und Oppositionelle gewaltsame Auseinandersetzungen. In der Hauptstadt Harare schossen Soldaten auf regierungskritische Demonstranten. Es gab offenbar bereits Tote. Die Armee riegelte die Straßen um den Sitz der Wahlkommission ab. Staatschef Mnangagwa rief zu Frieden auf. Seine ZANU-PF hatte im Parlament die meisten Sitze geholt. Die Opposition spricht von Wahlbetrug. Das Ergebnis der Präsidentschaftswahl liegt noch nicht vor.
Südafrika will die Umverteilung von Ackerland weiter voranbringen. Die Partei ANC von Präsident Ramaphosa will Verfassungsänderungen auf den Weg bringen, um die entschädigungslose Enteignung weißer Farmer zu beschleunigen. 24 Jahre nach dem Ende der Apartheid kontrolliert die weiße Minderheit in Südafrika 73 Prozent des Ackerlandes.
