Viele Stauseen im Land haben aufgrund der anhaltenden Niederschläge weiterhin Zufluss erhalten. Der Von-Bach-Damm, der Windhoek mit Trinkwasser versorgt, ist nun zu knapp 85 Prozent gefüllt, wie Wasserversorger Namwater mitteilte. Damit ist die Wasserversorgung längerfristig gesichtet. Der Hardap-Damm ist nach Schleusenöffnung nun zu 67 Prozent voll, der Naute-Damm zu knapp 100 Prozent. Auch die Stauseen Friedenau, Omatako, Swakoppoort, Oanob, Tilda Viljoen, Daan Viljoen und Naute haben weiterhin steigende Wasserstände.
Afrika hat sich 270 Millionen Dosen Corona-Impfstoff gesichert. Dies teilte der südafrikanische Präsident Cyril Ramaphosa als Vorsitzender des Impf-Einkaufsteams der Afrikanische Union mit. 50 Millionen Dosen werden spätestens bis Ende Juni verfügbar sein. Es handele sich um die Impfstoffe von BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson und AstraZeneca, die durch Lizenzinhaber „Serum Institute of India“ bereitgestellt würden. Zudem wird, wie der namibische Gesundheitsminister Kalumbi Shangula gestern mitteilte, auch Impfstoff aus dem WHO-Programm Covax-Programm ausgeliefert.
Die Polizei hat Aktivisten des „Affirmative Repositioning“ davor gewarnt, gewaltsam Geschäfte der Handelskette Shoprite/Checkers zu schließen. Jegliches Vorgehen außerhalb der Gesetze werde die Polizei dementsprechend beantworten, sagte die amtierende Generalinspekteurin der Polizei, Anna-Marie Nainda. Der angemeldete Protestmarsch der Gewerkschaft NAFAU werde ebenso polizeilich begleitet werden. Sondereinheiten der Polizei würden einschreiten, wenn der friedliche Protest in Gewalt umschlage, betonte Nainda. – Die Mitarbeiter von Shoprite/Checkers sind seit mehr als drei Wochen im Ausstand. Sie verlangen eine faktische Verdopplung der Gehälter und Bezüge.
