Namibias Chancen auf eine Teilnahme an der Fußball-Afrikameisterschaft 2022 sind gestiegen. Nachdem die Politik im Tschad den dortigen Fußballdachverband suspendiert hatte, wurde das Land wiederum von allen internationalen Wettbewerben ausgeschlossen Somit fällt Namibias Spiel in zehn Tagen gegen den Tschad aus und wird mit einem Sieh für die Brave Warriors gewertet. Nun muss Namibia darauf hoffen, dass die bereits qualifizierten Malier gegen Guinea gewinnen und Namibia dann ebenso Ende des Monats Guinea besiegt. Derzeit haben die Brave Warriors als Gruppendritter sechs Punkte, Guinea acht und Mali 13.

Womöglich ist die Entscheidung wer nach der EM neuer Nationaltrainer in Deutschland wird bereits gefallen. Wie deutsche Medien berichten, sieht es wohl nach einer Verpflichtung von Noch-Bayern-Trainer Hansi Flick aus. Dafür spreche auch, dass Bayern-Sportvorstand Hasan Salihamidžić von Julian Nagelsmann als Trainer in den vergangenen Tagen überschwänglich schwärmte. Flick war bereits acht Jahre lang Co-Trainer von Jogi Löw bei der deutschen Nationalmannschaft und gewann 2020 das Triple mit Bayern München.

Der südafrikanische Milliardär Patrice Motsepe, der auch Eigentümer des Erstligisten Mamelodi Sundowns ist, führt ab sofort den afrikanischen Fußballverband CAF. Er war bereits am Freitag einstimmig in der marokkanischen Hauptstadt Rabat gewählt worden. Wenig zuvor hatte FIFA-Präsident Gianni Infantino einen Deal eingefädelt, wonach die anderen drei Kandidaten Vize-Präsidenten bzw. direkter Berater von Motsepe werden sollen. Sie hatten diesem zugestimmt. Motsepe hatte Anfang des Jahres seinen 10-Punkte-Plan für die Entwicklung des afrikanischen Fußballs vorgestellt. So soll vor allem durch internationale Investoren in jedem Land in Afrika in den Fußball investiert werden. Auch wolle er den CAF-Hauptsitz von Kairo in Ägypten nach Johannesburg verlegen.
