In Namibia wurden seit Beginn des Jahres 19.000 Malaria-Fälle verzeichnet. 31 Personen starben durch die von Moskitos übertragene Krankheit. Das teilte Gesundheitsdirektor Ben Nangombe am Dienstag in Windhoek mit. Die meisten Fälle wurden demnach zwischen Januar und April verzeichnet. Dennoch zeigte sich Nangombe zufrieden über die Fortschritte im Kampf gegen Malaria. Allein zwischen 2001 und 2011 habe man einen Rückgang um 98 Prozent bei Infektionen und Todesfällen verzeichnet. Zuletzt gab es in den vergangenen beiden Jahren allerdings wieder einen leichten Anstieg.
