Die AgriBank hat 2700 Kunden in der Region Otjozondjupa 1,1 Milliarden Namibia Dollar zur Verfügung gestellt. Vor allem würden von der Dürre und anderen Naturkatastrophen betroffenen Farmer hiervon profitieren. Das Geld sei sowohl an kommunale als auch kommerzielle Landwirte gegangen. Vor allem wurde dieses aber auch für Neufarmer zum Kauf von Land und Nutzvieh genutzt. Regionalgouverneur James Uerikua nach, hat die AgriBank damit einen großen Beitrag zur Entwicklung von Otjozondjupa und eine Lebensgrundlage für viele Einwohner geleistet.
Die Farmer in den Karasbergen im Süden des Landes sehen wegen des verheerenden Veldfeuers der vergangenen zwei Wochen kaum noch Zukunftschancen. Es seien vielerorts 95 Prozent der Weidefläche den Flammen zum Opfer gefallen. Insgesamt habe es in dem Gebiet im äußersten Südosten des Landes über knapp eine Woche auf 160.000 Hektar gebrannt. Es sollen mindestens 21 kommerzielle Farmen betroffen sein. Menschen seien nicht zu Schaden gekommen, aber vor allem Kleinvieh sei in großer Zahl verbrannt. Die ohnehin schwierige Situation für die Farmer in dem trockenen Gebiet habe sich aber durch das Feuer massiv weiter verschärft.
Das Farmerwetter für die kommenden sieben Tage – kurz & knapp: Es wird landesweit wieder sehr heiß. Regen soll nur vereinzelt im Osten fallen. Die Temperaturen liegen zwischen 33 und 39 Grad am Tag und 14 bis 22 Grad in den Nächten. Die UV-Strahlung ist mit Werten von 12 bis 13 „extrem“. Die Brandgefahr ist hoch, örtlich auch mittelmäßig. Größere Veldfeuer gab es zuletzt vor allem im Süden der Region Otjozondjupa.
Zum Abschluss noch einige landwirtschaftliche Veranstaltungstipps: Auch diese Woche stehen zahlreiche Auktionen an. Morgen finden diese in Okahandja, Outjo und als Kleinviehauktion in Rehoboth statt. Hinzu kommt die Boran National Auction in Windhoek. Weiter geht es am Mittwoch in Karasburg, gefolgt von Keetmanshoop und Otjiwarongo am Donnerstag und Gobabis und Otavi zum Auktionswochenabschluss am Freitag.
