Die politische Krise in Südafrika hält unvermindert an. Fraktionen der Jugendliga des regierenden ANC fordern den umgehenden Parteiausschluss von mehrere hochrangigen Mitglieder. Darunter befinden sich Ex-Finanzminister Pravin Gordhan und Ex-Tourismusminister Derek Hanekom. Sie hatten beide in den vergangenen Wochen öffentlich ihren Unmut über die Staatsführung unter Präsident Jacob Zuma zum Ausdruck gebracht. Zudem hatten sie den Misstrauensantrag der oppositionellen DA gegen Zuma unterstützt.
Auch Kenia hat Plastiktüten komplett verboten. Man wolle damit der Vermüllung des Landes, insbesondere der Großstädte entgegenwirken, lies ein Regierungssprecher verlauten. Die nun verbotene Nutzung, Herstellung und Import von Plastiktüten würde in Zukunft mit einer Mindeststrafe von 17.000 US-Dollar geahndet werden. Es drohe eine Maximalstrafe von bis zu vier Jahren Gefängnis oder 38.000 US-Dollar. Vor Kenia haben unter anderem Ruanda, Äthiopien, Kamerun und Malawi ähnliche Verbote erlassen.
In Paris beraten am Nachmittag mehrere europäische und afrikanische Staats- und Regierungschefs über die Flüchtlingspolitik. Auch Kanzlerin Merkel ist dabei. Im Mittelpunkt der Gespräche steht die zentrale Mittelmeerroute und die Frage, wie die Fluchtbewegungen Richtung Europa eingedämmt werden können. Ein großes Thema dürften Pläne für Hotspots sein – Registrierungsstellen für Flüchtlinge noch auf afrikanischem Boden.
In Brüssel startet heute die dritte Runde der Brexit-Verhandlungen. Im Vorfeld macht der Verhandlungsführer des Europaparlaments, Verhofstadt, Druck: es brauche schnelle Fortschritte und konkrete Vorschläge aus Großbritannien, sagte er der Zeitung Die Welt. Gleichzeitig warnte Verhofstadt die Briten vor Rosinenpickerei.
