Rund 70 Prozent der Landfläche Namibias wird für die Landwirtschaft genutzt. Das erklärte Umweltminister Pohamba Shifeta im Rahmen der Weltklimakonferenz in Glasgow. Etwa zwei Drittel der Bevölkerung seien zudem in landwirtschaftliche Aktivitäten involviert. Gleichzeitig betonte der Minister aber auch, dass die Landnutzung durch klimatische Variabilität und Trockenheit extrem risikobehaftet sei. Schon jetzt ist laut Shifeta ein Drittel der namibischen Fläche von Bodendegradation betroffen. Er mahnte zudem an, dass Dürren in Zukunft wohl noch häufiger auftreten werden.
