Laut dem Gesundheitsministerium wurden zwischen Januar und März beinahe 3500 Fälle von Krätze bestätigt. Gesundheitsminister Kalumbi Shangula erklärte dazu, dass Krätze-Fälle im Norden des Landes keine Seltenheit seien. Seit Oktober vergangenen Jahres beobachte man jedoch eine zunehmende Ausbreitung auf weite Teile Namibias. Mit Ausnahme der Regionen Khomas und Sambesi sind alle Landesteile betroffen. Hotspot soll die Kunene-Region sein, wo allein mehr als 1400 Fälle der Hautkrankheit registriert wurden. In erster Linie seien Schulkinder und Bewohner urbaner Regionen ohne ausreichend Zugang zu Wasser und sanitären Einrichtungen betroffen. Krätze wird durch Milbenbefall ausgelöst und verbreitet sich durch Hautkontakt. Die Krankheit äußert sich häufig durch starken Juckreiz.
