Ausländer sind ab sofort in Botswana von diversen geschäftlichen Aktivitäten ausgeschlossen. Das Kabinett hat die Umsetzung des Industrieentwicklungsgesetztes aus dem Jahr 2019 angekündigt, teilte das Handelsministerium mit. Demnach dürfen in diversen Sektoren keine Ausländer mehr beschäftigt werden. Dies gilt unter anderem für den Großhandel und Tankstellen sowie 21 Handwerksbereiche, darunter die Herstellung von Möbeln. Analysten nach geht Botswana damit einen deutlichen Schritt Richtung Protektionismus und folgt Ländern wie Simbabwe. Direktinvestitionen aus dem Ausland dürften darunter leiden.
