Präsident Hage Geingob hat die Industrienationen einmal mehr aufgefordert, ihre Anstrengungen im Kampf gegen den Klimawandel zu verstärken. Vor allem die industriellen Tätigkeiten des Westens hätten die Klimakrise verursacht, erklärte Geingob auf einer Veranstaltung am Rande des US-Afrika-Gipfels in Washington D.C. Umgekehrt würden Länder wie Namibia unverhältnismäßig stark unter den Folgen leiden. Die Beschlüsse der jüngsten UN-Klimakonferenz seien bedeutungslos, sollten die Industrienationen als Verursacher und die Entwicklungsnationen als Leidtragende nicht gleichberechtigt kooperieren. Gleichzeitig hob Geingob einmal mehr das Potenzial des Kontinents als globaler Energielieferant hervor. Afrika dürfe im Rahmen einer gerechten Energiewende nicht zurückgelassen werden, so der Präsident weiter.
