In der Region Kavango-West häufen sich die Fälle von Bilharziose. Das gab das Gesundheitsministerium bekannt. Die Behörden sprechen von mehr als 600 Verdachtsfällen, 173 davon konnten bisher bestätigt werden. Bilharziose ist eine Krankheit, die durch einen parasitären Wurm ausgelöst wird. Menschen können sich anstecken, wenn sie in Kontakt mit Wasser kommen, in dem Schnecken leben, die den Wurm tragen. Das Gesundheitsministerium ruft dazu auf, Flusswasser in der betroffenen Region Kavango-West zu meiden. Die Krankheit tritt regelmäßig in den Kavango-Regionen, sowie den Regionen Sambesi und Omusati auf.
