Fischereiminister Derek Klazen hat Forderungen nach höheren Fangquoten für die namibische Fischereiindustrie zurückgewiesen. Es sei die Aufgabe der Regierung, die nachhaltige Nutzung der Marineressourcen zu sichern. Die aktuelle Forschung zeige, dass noch mehr Fischerei nicht nachhaltig und damit auch gesetzeswidrig sei, so Klazen weiter. Gleichzeitig zeigte er sich enttäuscht von der Fischereiindustrie. So hätten etliche Teilnehmer eines Projekts zur Verringerung der Langusten-Überfischung und Kartierung von Fanggründen falsche Daten angegeben. Der Minister sprach im Rahmen eines Treffens mit Industrievertretern in Lüderitz.
