In Südafrika sollen rund 10.000 Soldaten die anstehenden Lokalwahlen sichern. Das teilte die Nationalversammlung des Landes mit. Demnach habe Präsident Cyril Ramaphosa einen entsprechenden Einsatz zur Sicherung der Wahlen am 1. November angeordnet. Er soll bereits am Samstag starten und bis zum kommenden Mittwoch andauern. Die Kosten werden mit etwa 47 Millionen Rand angegeben. Es ist das zweite Mal innerhalb weniger Monate, dass die Armee im Inland zum Einsatz kommen. Zuletzt waren im Juli zehntausende Soldaten aufgrund der Unruhen nach der Verhaftung Jacob Zumas in die Krisenregionen KwaZulu-Natal und Gauteng entsendet worden.
