Wilderei, Viehdiebstahl und Mensch-Tier-Konflikte haben einen enormen negativen Einfluss auf die Wirtschaft in Namibia. Das geht aus einer Studie hervor, die im Rahmen einer Landwirtschaftskonferenz in Windhoek vorgestellt wurde. Demnach wurde zwischen 2015 und 2020 allein in acht Regionen zusammengerechnet ein Verlust von beinahe N$ 220 Millionen gemacht. Bei der Wilderei war die Erongo-Region finanziell am schlimmsten betroffen. Die höchsten Verluste durch Viehdiebstahl wurden der Studie zufolge in der Region Kunene verzeichnet. Die meisten Kosten durch Raubtiere wurden in der Region Otjozondjupa verursacht.
