In der Namib sind offenbar drei Geparden an einer Milzbrand-Infektion verstorben. Das berichten Forscher des Leibniz-Instituts für Wildtierforschung in Berlin. Demnach sollen die Tiere ein mit dem Anthrax-Erreger infiziertes Bergzebra gefressen und sich so ebenfalls angesteckt haben. Die Wissenschaftler gehen davon aus, dass die Raubtiere dabei eine große Menge Bakterien aufgenommen haben und so ihre natürliche Immunität überlastet wurde. Das infizierte Bergzebra wiederum stellt den Forschern zufolge die erste bestätigte Milzbrandinfektion bei einer Wildtierart in der Namib-Wüste dar.
