Namibia will im Kampf gegen den Klimawandel von globalen Kohlenstoffmärkten Gebrauch machen. Ein entsprechendes Projekt zur Schaffung der notwendigen Rahmenbedingungen in Namibia wurde nun gestartet. Finanziert wird es mit umgerechnet rund N$ 17 Millionen durch die japanische Regierung. Kohlenstoffmärkte sind Teil des Pariser Klimaschutzabkommens von 2015. Auf diesen globalen Märkten sollen Länder und Einrichtungen mit Emissionszertifikaten handeln können. Namibia plant seine CO2-Emissionen bis 2030 um 91 Prozent zu reduzieren. Umweltminister Pohamba Shifeta erklärte dazu heute, dass dieses Ziel nur gemeinsam mit dem Privatsektor erreicht werden könne.
