Das namibische Handelsdefizit hat sich im August leicht verschlechtert. Nach Angaben der Statistikagentur lag die Diskrepanz zwischen Importausgaben und Exporteinnahmen zuletzt bei N$ 2,9 Milliarden. Den überarbeiteten Daten zufolge lag das Defizit im Juli bei N$ 2,8 Milliarden. Die wichtigsten Exportmärkte waren zuletzt Botswana, Südafrika und China. Den Großteil der Exportwaren machten Diamanten, Fisch und Uran aus. Die meisten Importe kamen zuletzt aus Südafrika, gefolgt von den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten und China. Dabei machten Erdöl, Diamanten und Zucker den größten Anteil aus.
