Das Gesundheitsministerium hat eine Häufung von H1N1-Grippefällen bestätigt. Zuletzt hätten sich von 190 labortechnisch untersuchten Fällen 54 bestätigt. Betroffen seien vor allem die Regionen Otjozondjupa und Khomas mit je 24 und die Region Kavango-Ost mit sechs Fällen. Es handele sich um eine normale, saisonal auftretende Influenzaerkrankung. Deshalb gebe es, der Erklärung des Ministeriums nach, keinen Anlass zur Sorge. Nach dem großen, weltweiten Ausbruch der sogenannten Schweinegrippe 2009, wurde diese anschließend von der WHO als „saisonale Grippe“ herabgestuft. Die Bezeichnung Schweinegrippe sei folglich nicht mehr korrekt, da es sich um eine Viruserkrankung handelt, die von Menschen zu Menschen übertragen wird.
