Die gezielten Stromabschaltungen in Südafrika dauern mindestens zwei weitere Tage an. Dies kündigte Energieversorger Eskom an. Demnach sei die Stufe 2 des „Load Shedding“ bis zunächst Donnerstag verlängert worden. Ursache der Knappheit ist ein Zusammenbruch mehrere Generatoren des Kraftwerks Tutuka im Osten des Landes. Das Kohlekraftwerk kann normalerweise bis zu 3650 Megawatt an Strom liefern. Zuvor waren schon Stromerzeuger an zwei anderen Kraftwerken ausgefallen. Insgesamt fehlen nahezu 15.000 Megawatt, zuzüglich 5300 Megawatt die aufgrund geplanter Instandhaltungsarbeiten nicht zur Verfügung stünden.
