Die Mordrate in Südafrika ist im vergangenen Quartal erneut deutlich angestiegen. Nach Angaben der südafrikanischen Polizei wurden zwischen April und Juni über 6.400 Menschen ermordet. Im Jahresvergleich entspricht das einem Anstieg von 11,5 Prozent. Hinzukommen kommen beinahe 5.600 versuchte Morde. Besonders die Gewalt gegenüber Frauen und Kindern nahm zuletzt teils dramatisch zu. So stieg die Zahl der Morde und tätlichen Angriffe auf Frauen im Jahresvergleich um über 50 Prozent. Polizeiminister Bheki Cele sprach von alamierenden und inakzeptablen Zahlen. Die Gesellschaft müsse bei Gewalt gegen Frauen und Kinder zusammenstehen.
