Die südafrikanische Zentralbank hat zum ersten Mal seit beinahe drei Jahren den Leitzins angehoben. Damit steigt die Rate auf 3,75 Prozent. Die Änderung tritt nach Angaben der Bank am morgigen Freitag in Kraft. Der fünfköpfige geldpolitische Ausschuss stimmte dabei nur knapp mit drei zu zwei Stimmen für die Anhebung um 0.25 Prozentpunkte. Damit soll vor allem der steigenden Inflation entgegengewirkt werden, hieß es von Seiten der Zentralbank. Auch die Bank of Namibia hatte zuletzt vor einer steigenden Inflationsrate in Namibia gewarnt, den Leitzins im August allerdings zunächst bei 3,75 Prozent belassen.
