Telecom Namibia hat sich besorgt über eine steigende Anzahl von Vandalismus-Fällen gezeigt. In erster Linie handele es sich dabei um den Diebstahl von Kupfer-Kabeln, wie das Unternehmen mitteilte. Laut Geschäftsführer Stanley Shanapinda würden die Diebe aber auch vermehrt Batterien und Solar-Panele entwenden. Vor allem seit Beginn der Ferienzeit sei es so zu zahlreichen Ausfällen im Netzwerk von Telecom Namibia gekommen. Shanapinda sprach in diesem Zusammenhang von Verlusten für das Unternehmen in Millionenhöhe. Eine unmittelbare Lösung des Problems scheint derweil nicht in Sicht. Da sich die Kabel über hunderte Kilometer durch das Land ziehen würden, sei es unmöglich die gesamte Infrastruktur zu schützen, so der CEO.
