Der Direktor des IRDNC (Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation) hat die Vergiftung von Raubtieren als Wildtier-Genozid bezeichnet. In einem Interview mit der Nachrichtenagentur Nampa erklärte John Kasaona, dass durch diese Methode in den vergangenen zehn Jahren unzählige Wildtiere durch Farmer getötet wurden. Besonders schlimm sei die Kunene-Region betroffen. Kasaona betonte auch noch einmal, dass es illegal sei, wilde Tiere ohne Genehmigung zu töten. Der IRDNC-Direktor bezog sich dabei auch auf den jüngsten Zwischenfall, wobei zwei Farmer verhaftet wurden, nachdem sie vier Löwen und zwei Hyänen vergiftet haben sollen.
