Special Olympics
Bei den Olympischen Winterspielen der geistig und mehrfach behinderten Menschen in Österreich konnte Namibia einen 4. Platz erkämpfen. Das Unified Team im Floorball ließ Mexiko hinter sich. – Aus Afrika nahmen insgesamt acht Nationen teil, davon außer Kenia, Südafrika und Uganda alle nur im Floorball, die anderen im Floohockey und Südafrika zudem noch in Eisschnell- und –kunstlauf.
Radsport
Die Namibierin Michelle Vorster mit ihrem südafrikanischen Team erreichte bei der Cape Epic Mountainbike-Tour in Südafrika den 5. Platz in ihrer Kategorie und den 54. insgesamt. Vera Adrian platzierte sich mit ihrem Team nur einen Rang dahinter. Das reinnamibische Männerteam „Land Rover Windhoek“ wurde 74. tn der Kategorie und 127. insgesamt. Nach einem 9. Platz 2015 und einem 11. Platz 2016, wurde das namibische Mixed-Team Irene und Philip Steyn in diesem Jahr nur 22. – Michiel Van der Heijden aus den Niederlanden und Andi Frischknecht aus der Schweiz haben die Tour gewonnen.

Fußball
„Ohne Holland fahr’n wir zur WM“ könnte es nach der EM 2016 auch 2018 heißen. Die Niederlande verlor in der WM-Qualifikation in Bulgarien mit 2 zu 0. Nun liegen sie in Gruppe A auf dem 4. Rang, sechs Punkte hinter Frankreich. Gewinnen konnten u.a. Portugal, Italien und Spanien. Deutschland kam gegen Aserbaidschan auswärts zu einem 4 zu 1 und bleibt Tabellenführer in der Gruppe C. Die Schweiz ist nach fünf Siegen in fünf Spielen fast sicher für die WM qualifiziert. – In Nordamerika hatte die USA beim 6 zu 0 gegen Honduras keine Mühe; liegt dennoch nur auf dem 4. Platz. Neuseeland und Tahiti bleiben das Maß aller Dinge bei der Quali in Ozeanien.
Formel 1
Nach mehr als 550 Tagen hat der Vierfachweltmeister Sebastian Vettel wieder ein Formel-1-Rennen gewonnen. Vettel siegte in seinem Ferrari zum Auftakt der Saison in Melbourne vor den Mercedes-Piloten Lewis Hamilton und Valtteri Bottas. Zweitbester deutscher Fahrer war Nico Hülkenberg auf Rang 11. – Das nächste Rennen findet am 9. April in China statt.
