Heute wird der neue Premierminister des Königreichs Lesotho, Sam Matekane, in sein Amt eingeführt. Aus diesem Grund hat Staatspräsident Hage Geingob am Morgen Namibia in Richtung Maseru verlassen. Auch weitere Staatsoberhäupter des südlichen Afrikas werden zur Amtseinführung erwartet. Der 64-jährige Matekane ist ein bekannter Geschäftsmann, der mit Gründung der Partei „Revolution for Prosperity“ Anfang des Jahres in die Politik einstieg. Geingob gratulierte ihm im Vorfeld und dankte für die freien und demokratischen Wahlen. In den vergangenen Jahren herrschte große politische Unsicherheit in Lesotho, unter anderem nachdem der Ex-Premier Thomas Thabane des Mordes angeklagt wurde.
