Die Zahl der Gewaltverbrechen in Südafrika hat auch im letzten Quartal des Berichtsjahres 2022/23 bis Ende März zugenommen. Dies gab die südafrikanische Polizei bekannt. So gab es mit 6289 etwa 3,4 Prozent mehr Morde als zwischen Januar und März des Vorjahres. Gegenüber 2019 nahm die Zahl der gewaltsamen Tötungsdelikte gar um 28 Prozent zu. Auch die Zahl der Mordversuche legte weiter deutlich zu. Auch in den sonstigen Bereichen der Kontaktkriminalität hat die Fallzahl zugelegt. Hingegen wurden weniger Sexualdelikte und Fälle von sogenanntem Car-Jacking gemeldet. Bei schweren Verbrechen liegen Kapstadt, Durban und Johannesburg an der Spitze.
