Bisher sind 27 Menschen bei den Protesten in Eswatini ums Leben gekommen. Dies bestätigte Wirtschaftsminister Manqoba Khumalo gegenüber der Presseagentur AFP. Es sei äußerst bedauerlich, dass die Sicherheitskräfte des Landes die Proteste auf diese Weise beenden mussten. Es sei nicht der Wunsch gewesen, dass es Todesopfer gibt, betonte Khumalo. Die Art der Proteste und die extreme Aggressivität der Aufständischen hätten aber den Einsatz von Schusswaffen nötig gemacht. Viele der Opfer seien aber auch in brennenden Gebäuden verstorben und nicht durch Schüsse getötet worden.
