SWAPO-Altpolitiker Helmut Angula hat die nach ihm benannten Anpassung des Parteirechts der Regierungspartei verteidigt. Er sagte gegenüber der Namibian Sun, dass sich nur die Personen Vorwürfe machen müssen, die nicht rechtzeitig mitgedacht haben. Die Parteistatuten schreiben seit 2017 vor, dass ein Kandidat für die Top-Positionen der Partei mindestens zehn Jahre ohne Unterbrechung im Zentralkomitee gewesen sein muss. Hätte die Partei Jüngere mehr involvieren wollen, wäre es lange möglich gewesen die sogenannten „Helmut Amendments“ rückgängig zu machen. Stattdessen setze man sich einfach über die Vorgaben hinweg, um bevorzugte Kandidaten durchzuboxen, so Angula.
