Am gestrigen frühen Morgen ist ein Feuer im Parlament Südafrikas in Kapstadt ausgebrochen. Bis Redaktionsschluss konnten die zeitweilig 70 Feuerwehrleute den Brand nicht vollständig unter Kontrolle bringen. Das Dach der alten Nationalversammlung sei eingestürzt und Büroräume ausgebrannt. Das Gebäude, eines von dreien in dem Parlamentskomplex, wurde 1884 fertiggestellt. Das Feuer sei auch auf das neue Gebäude der Nationalversammlung übergegriffen. Ein 49-Jähriger wurde in Zusammenhang mit dem Brand festgenommen. Er sei illegal ins Gebäude eingedrungen und habe wohl mindestens die automatischen Löschanlagen außer Betrieb gesetzt. Er soll morgen dem Haftrichter vorgeführt werden.
