Die Kommunikationsregulierungsbehörde CRAN hat dem namibischen Mobilfunkanbieter UCOM die Frequenzlizenzen entzogen. Hintergrund sind einem CRAN-Statement zufolge unbezahlte Rechnungen in Höhe von über N$ 19 Millionen. Nach einem erfolglosen Schlichtungsprozess habe das Obergericht bereits im November 2023 einem Versäumnisurteil gegen UCOM zugestimmt, heißt es weiter. CRAN wirft dem Unternehmen auch vor, die zwischen 2014 und 2020 zugesprochenen Frequenzen nicht effizient genutzt und somit blockiert zu haben. Aus Rücksicht auf die rund 1000 UCOM-Kunden habe man dem Unternehmen eine Gnadenfrist von sechs Monaten gewährt. Damit soll die Migration der Kunden und die geordnete Abwicklung des Betriebs ermöglicht werden. Zum Juni 2024 sollen dann alle Dienste eingestellt werden.
