Namibia will mit der Impfung von Mädchen gegen krebserregende Human-Papillomviren beginnen. Das Kabinett gab nun grünes Licht für die Anschaffung der entsprechenden Impfstoffe. In einem ersten Schritt sollen dabei rund 40.000 Mädchen im Alter von 9 bis 14 Jahren geimpft werden. Über einen Zeitraum von drei Jahren soll dann das Impfziel von insgesamt 70 Prozent erreicht werden. Begleitend soll das Gesundheitsministerium eine landesweite Aufklärungskampagne durchführen. Human-Papillomviren können bei Frauen Gebärmutterhalskrebs hervorrufen.
