Die Abschaffung der Reisepass-Pflicht bei Reisen zwischen Namibia und Botswana soll noch in dieser Woche formalisiert werden. Nach Angaben des Innenministeriums in Gaborone werden die Präsidenten beider Länder am Freitag ein entsprechendes Abkommen unterzeichnen. Damit sollen in Zukunft Personalausweise als Reisedokument ausreichend sein. Ein entsprechender Schritt ist bereits seit Jahren geplant und soll schlussendlich auch für die gesamte SADC-Region eingeführt werden. Die Regierung in Botswana bezeichnete das geplante Abkommen als Unterstützung der Bewegungsfreiheit und des Warenverkehrs zwischen beiden Ländern.
