Der Bergbau in Namibia wirft nach Ansicht des Parlamentsausschusses für natürliche Ressourcen zu wenig Geld für die Regierung ab. In den vergangenen fünf Jahren seien dabei nur rund N$ 8 Milliarden durch Lizenzgebühren eingetrieben worden. Dies sei vor allem in Bezug auf den gleichzeitigen Umsatz der Minen im Land zu wenig. Das bemängelt der Ausschuss in einem Bericht zum Potenzial des Bergbausektors in Namibia. Die Lizenzgebühren seien sehr niedrig und würden auch keine Wertschöpfung in Namibia fördern, heißt es weiter. Um die Situation zu verbessern, wird die ausschließliche Ausstellung von Bergbaulizenzen mit einem 50-prozentigen Anteil der Regierung vorgeschlagen. Zudem sollten Bergbauunternehmen verpflichtet werden, Verarbeitungsanlagen für die Wertschöpfung zu errichten.
