Südafrikas Präsident Cyril Ramaphosa hat vor der Anstellung von Ausländern ohne gültige Ausweispapiere gewarnt. Dies sei einerseits illegal und würde andererseits zu den sozialen Spannungen in Südafrika beitragen. Konkret hob Ramaphosa dabei das Gastgewerbe, die Landwirtschaft und den Transportsektor hervor. Gleichzeitig betonte er, dass Südafrika für jeden mit gültigen Papieren offen stehe. Als Land der Diversität und Toleranz dürfe sich die Gesellschaft niemals gegen Menschen aus dem Ausland stellen. Justizminister Ronald Lamola sprach derweil davon, dass die Menschlichkeit in Südafrika nach zahlreichen Attacken auf Afrikaner und Asiaten auf einen Tiefststand gesunken sei.
