Ein südafrikanisches Gericht hat Shell vorerst verboten, im Rahmen seiner Öl- und Gasexploration seismische Sprengungen an der Wild Coast durchzuführen. Laut News24 haben die Gemeinden an der Wild Coast Ende November einen Eilantrag gegen die Explorationsarbeiten gestellt. Sie befürchten durch die seismischen Untersuchungen von Shell eine Gefahr für die Meerestiere. Shell hat vor kurzem mit einer seismischen Untersuchung vor der Küste zwischen Morgans Bay und Port St Johns begonnen. Wissenschaftler nutzen die Informationen, um mögliche Öl- oder Gasfelder zu finden. Das untersuchte Gebiet ist etwa 6000 km² groß.
