Nach dem Brand im südafrikanischen Parlament hat sich die namibische Nationalversammlung solidarisch gezeigt. In einem Schreiben drückte Parlamentspräsident Peter Katjavivi seiner südafrikanischen Amtskollegin sein Beileid aus. Die entstandenen Schäden seien entmutigend. Im Parlament von Südafrika war am 02. Januar ein Feuer ausgebrochen, das erst drei Tage später gelöscht werden konnte. Unter anderem der Sitzungssaal des historischen Gebäudes in Kapstadt war dabei vollständig ausgebrannt. In einem vorläufigen Bericht erklärte die Feuerwehr heute, dass die Ausbreitung der Flammen durch geöffnete Feuertüren begünstigt wurde. Zudem hätten die Sprinkleranlage und die Feuerwarnsysteme offenbar nicht funktioniert.
