Nach den heftigen Regenfällen in Windhoek am vergangenen Mittwoch ist die Zahl der Todesopfer auf vier gestiegen. Wie Polizeichef Joseph Shikongo gegenüber Nampa bestätigte, wurden am Freitag zwei weitere Leichen im Gammams-Rivier gefunden. Sie sollen Teil einer Gruppe von Obdachlosen und Straßenkindern gewesen sein, die vor den Regenfällen Schutz in einem Tunnel gesucht hatten und dann von den Sturzfluten überrascht wurden. Am Donnerstag waren bereits die Leichen zweier Straßenkinder gefunden wurden. Vier Personen aus der Gruppe konnten gerettet werden, zwei weitere werden noch vermisst. Die Sucharbeiten dauern nach Angaben von Polizeichef Shikongo an.
