Die Weltbank hat einen südafrikanischen Antrag für ein Entwicklungsdarlehen in Milliardenhöhe abgesegnet. Südafrika erhält damit umgerechnet mehr als 11 Milliarden Rand. Die Gelder sollen laut dem Finanzministerium des Landes in erster Linie in die Wiederankurbelung der pandemiegeschwächten Wirtschaft fließen. Zudem sollen Unterstützungsprojekte für finanziell schwache Bevölkerungsschichten finanziert werden. Das Darlehen soll zu einem niedrigen Zinssatz bereitgestellt werden und so die Lücken in der Staatskasse schließen, die durch die Bekämpfung der Covid19-Pandemie in Südafrika entstanden sind.
