Am vergangenen Wochenende haben erneut schwere Unwetter an der Ostküste Südafrikas gewütet. Insbesondere die Hafenstadt Durban hatte mit den Stürmen zu kämpfen. Laut der Nachrichtenagentur AFP mussten knapp 250 Anwohner ihre Häuser verlassen. Zudem wurden Straßen, Brücken und mehrere Gebäude beschädigt. Todesfälle wurden bisher noch nicht vermeldet, die Bergungsarbeiten dauern weiter an. Laut dem Regionalgouverneur der Provinz KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala, seien einige Bereiche von Durban zu Inseln geworden und konnten noch nicht erreicht werden. Die Armee wurde zur Verstärkung für die Rettungskräfte gerufen. Erst Ende April waren in Südafrika über 430 Menschen bei schweren Unwettern ums Leben gekommen.
