Eine kurzfristige Lösung für die anhaltenden Stromprobleme in Südafrika hat einen Rückschlag erlitten. Bloomberg News nach könne der Notfallenergieplan im Wert von 95 Milliarden Rand nicht so schnell umgesetzt werden wie ursprünglich angedacht. Eigentlich sollen 2000 Megawatt durch Stromkäufe von privaten Stromproduzenten zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Ohnehin sei diese Menge Strom nur etwa ein Drittel des benötigten kurzfristigen Bedarfs. Indessen wurde ein ehemaliger Mitarbeiter von Stromversorger Eskom wegen Betruges zu 20 Jahren Haft verurteilt. Eskom hat hunderte Milliarden Rand Schulden, vor allem durch Korruption und schlechtes Wirtschaften.
