Südafrikas Wirtschaftsaussichten sind positiv. Zu diesem Ergebnis kommt eine Delegation des Internationalen Währungsfonds IMF nach einem zehntätigen Aufenthalt in dem Land. Vor allem die hohen Weltmarktpreise für Bergbauprodukte würden den südafrikanischen Export stützen. Nationale und internationale Probleme, darunter die Überschwemmungen in der Provinz Kwazulu-Natal und der Ukraine-Konflikt, zeigten jedoch die Verletzlichkeit der südafrikanischen Wirtschaft. Für den Tourismus und Bausektor könne man dennoch mit einem stetigen Wachstum rechnen. Die Geldmarktpolitik wiederum müsse strenger werden, so das Expertenteam des IMF. Weiterhin gebe der Staat zu viel Geld für unnötige Dinge aus. Die Rettung von Eskom und Transnet müsstem zudem Priorität haben, hieß es weiter.
