Gesundheitsminister Joe Phaahla erwartet bereits im November die vierte Corona-Welle in Südafrika. Derweil kämpft das Land noch immer mit der durch die Delta-Variante angetriebenen dritten Welle. Aktuell sind vor allem am West- und Nordkap die Zahlen mit Positivraten von bis zu 30 Prozent hoch. Dort sei zudem die zweite Welle ohne Unterbrechung in die dritte übergegangen, so Phaahla. Der Minister rief noch einmal alle Südafrikaner über 18 Jahren auf, sich impfen zu lassen. Die Impfstoffe seien aktuell das effektivste Mittel gegen weitere Virus-Mutationen.
