Die Weltbank hat erneut eine Herabstufung Namibias abgelehnt. Das Land solle froh sein, seit 2009 als Land mit höherem mittleren Einkommen klassifiziert zu sein, so die Landesdirektorin Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly laut The Brief. Dies würde zeigen, dass Namibia auf dem richtigen Weg sei. Seit Jahren fordert die namibische Führung eine Herabstufung zu einem Land mit niedrigerem, mittleren Einkommen. Dies würde deutlich mehr Gelder aus der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit ermöglichen. Aufgrund der hohen Einkommenskluft im Land sei eine Einteilung nur Aufgrund des Durchschnittslohns für Namibia falsch. Der Weltbank nach habe Namibia genügend Möglichkeiten, die nötigen finanziellen Mittel zu erhalten.
