Die Zahl der Todesopfer auf Madagaskar nach dem Tropensturm „Batsirai“ ist auf mindestens 111 gestiegen. Das teilten die Behörden heute mit. Demnach kamen allein im Distrikt Ikongo mindestens 87 Personen ums Leben, als der Zyklon am vergangenen Wochende auf den Inselstaat traf. Mehr als 100.000 Menschen sollen auf Hilfe angewiesen sein. Bereits zu Wochenbeginn hatte das Technische Hilfswerk aus Deutschland ein Expertenteam entsendet, um die Lage vor Ort einzuschätzen. Derweil gehen die Behörden in Simbabwe davon aus, dass in dieser Saison noch mindestens sechs weitere Tropenstürme das südliche Afrika treffen werden.
