Deutschlands vierthöchster politischer Amtsträger, Bundesratspräsident Daniel Günther, besucht ab dem 13. Juli für sechs Tage Namibia. Dies teilte die Botschaft mit. Günther, der Ministerpräsident des Landes Schleswig-Holstein ist, wird sich zuvor in Angola aufhalten. In Namibia sind Gespräche mit Staatspräsident Hage Geingob, der Vize-Premier- und Außenministerin Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Handelsminister Tjekero Tweya und Nationalversammlungssprecher Peter Katjavivi geplant. Günther soll zudem eine Rede vor dem Namibischen Nationalrat, dem faktischen Äquivalent zum Deutschen Bundesrat, halten. Mit einer Delegation wird er zudem Swakopmund und Walvis Bay besuchen.
Namibia wird für die kommenden sieben Monate der aktuellen Legislaturperiode ohne Bildungsminister auskommen. Dies teilte Staatspräsident Hage Geingob mit. Dem Gesetz entsprechend hat Geingob den Minister für Präsidentschaftsangelegenheiten Martin Andjaba mit der interimistischen Führung des Ministeriums für Bildung, Kunst und Kultur beauftragt. Auch ihm steht die bisherige Vizeministerin Anna Nghipondoka zur Seite, heißt es in der Erklärung. – Das Amt des Bildungsministers war nach dem gestrigen Rücktritt von Katrina Hanse-Himarwa vakant geworden.
FlyWestair hat kurz nach der Aufnahme von Linienflügen eine neue Strecke ins Angebot aufgenommen. Ab sofort finden vier Mal pro Woche jeweils zwei tägliche Flüge zwischen Windhoek-Eros und Ondangwa statt. Damit steigt die private namibische Airline in direkten Konkurrenzkampf mit Air Namibia auf der lukrativsten Inlandsstrecke ein. Seit 24. Juni fliegt FlyWestair zwischen Eros und Oranjemund. Weitere nationale Verbindungen sind kurzfristig geplant, Regionalflüge nach unter anderem nach Kapstadt sollen im August aufgenommen werden.
